Rick Scott, Repub said he's open to considering witnesses during the trial after the Senate hears opening arguments. "I think it's very important to have a fair trial. We're going to hear from both sides. We're going to ask questions, and then we'll make a decision on witnesses."
I can say that I would love to have a discussion like that before a criminal trial. I represent people charged with criminal offenses altho I usually represent ppl on appeal. "No, State, yoo don't need witnesses or evidence!"
