@marksmall1973 What arguments do you have against Federalist 68? We like Democracy, so the election should be direct?
Still, direct election may be better, if we are going to allow the College to be corrupted, bound, chosen by party and made insignificant.

I don't argue against Fed 68. Problem is the electors - phrase "electoral college" isn't in Const - never have functioned as Hamilton sd they were intended. They don't exercise discretion. Election should be pop majority

Imagine if we knew they were elected to exercise discretion. I think the "ax murderer" argument insurmountable. If one were revealed between election and votes, they are obviously not bound, and it was unconstitutional to bind, let alone intimidate them. Colin Powell for Pres!

If they exercised discretion, the electors' names, not the candidates' names, would appear on ballot.

The founders imagined it like the appointment of Judges, not to be done by the people directly. So they imagine these reved types outside opolitics chosen...similar to our new MI districting by a non-political committee chosen for that purpose. We are quite proud of this MI law.

They're Framers - as in construction of bldg frame & we fill it in later. "Founders" = everyone - women, slaves, indigenous ppl. Framers got a lot of stuff a bit "off."
