Putin has worked for years to destabilize the U.S. Why? To convince his citizens that America's democracy is unstable and America's way off life should not be envied. He will continue to meddle in U.S. elections to further his cause for complete dominance over his own.
Putin hates USA we: 1) killed his comrades in Afghanistan (see Charlie Wilson's War); 2) invaded USSR (1919 - Russians have longer memories); 3) laid back in WWII & let Nazis kill lots of Russians before we landed in Normandy + he hates democratic values.
