The distinction between Socialism and capitalism, and the characterization of our "system" as the latter, is entirely foreign to our founders and our Constitution except for the protection of the right to property (5A). Its like Marx, not Jefferson, taught us political theory.

This "Socialism" emerged AFTER the French Revolution, as Tocqueville describes Foierre and Owen, and Marx lists Proudhon and another. Marx contrasts Communism, his murderous violent revolution, from these defective "socialists."

Then, for the critique of "socialism," there is nothing like Shakespeare's Gonzago's speech in The Tempest, where his latter end forgets his beginning, "If I were king of this island, and Lord on it...." Tocqueville is pretty good too: French Revolution, III.1-2, etc..
