Implicit was the notion that one does not protest United States military involvement. To say a war is wrong is also to say U.S. military personnel who died in such involvements died in vain. Such protest is unpatriotic and people who protest wars should leave the country. 2/22

In a nutshell, the National conscience is seen as an impediment to political & in some cases, militarily objectives, and avoided at all costs.
Somewhat - I think that what constitutes the "National conscience" is an important question. Sometimes there are actions carried out w/o conscience.

I believe those of my generation have seen so much, that have sewn distrust, particularly involving politicians & military. Kent State, William Calley-My Lai, Bush-WMD, it’s endless. Left alone & to their own devices, we would never see the truth. America conscience a must.

I think we are of the same generation. I do not believe a general conscience exists. There are ppl here (Indiana) who believe Vietnam could have been won & ppl did not land on the Moon. A conscience becomes a mob event. Each of us has to value right from wrong.
