Re: the judge(s) that keep showing leniency for rapists because they come from good families and have good opportunities and such. Those are reasons to give them the maximum sentence allowed, as they had every opportunity given to them and they chose to be a rapist.

Nothing (not even poverty) makes rapes okay, but being born with a silver spoon in your mouth and being a rapist is worse.

Indiana's sentencing statutes list aggravators and mitigators & judges have discretion to consider other matters: being "fr good family" is not listed as mit but lack of remorse is an agg

Was the case in Indiana? I only cited Indiana as an example Judge abuses discretion if sentence includes inappropriate aggs or mits Trial court judges in Indiana are elected officials Judge could be sanctioned but unlikely fired

Sorry on that first part. On second: a rare (as in I've never heard of it) occurrence is judge, sheriff or prosecutor elected on pledge to protect ppl's rts otoh "I'll hang 'em!" usu garners votes Some jobs should not be elected
