Far too nuanced for most exchanges in USA. Slovenia was under Tito so wasn't part of Sov bloc but considered "red" by red-baiters because - well, it just was

Tito was smart enough to realize that if he courted the west (and its money) too openly, Russia would do to Yugoslavia what it did to Hungary. So he played up his communist credentials and made sure Moscow had no reason to doubt him.

I'm prejudiced. I had to drive a LADA once (Russia's standard 'car of the people') and it was the most dreadful driving experience of my life. It left me with 'opinions' of Easterm Bloc engineering.

I had a 1961 Cushman in hs (4 about 1 month; it fell over when I was in a turn) & 1975 Mercury Bobcat in law sch (4 about 1 mo; it had no floor boards) Well, I did drive a 'vette 2nd year of law sch (Chevette)
