The people who want to represent us are important and who they are is important too. The time to debate who these people are is now in the primaries. If we don't do a good job picking a good candidate we will lose. Candidates win and lose on who they are as well as issues.
& that's basis for slamming w/ad hominem attacks. I see that as means of weakening the candidates for Democratic nomination

I disagree. As long as facts are being used it's not attacking. If a candidate is weakened it's because he was weak to begin with. With 20 candidates running we need to find the strongest candidate for a nominee.
