I have to get off from here pretty soon, but to respond - there is a difference between an act of violence to stop violence (self-defense) or demonstrations demanding justice as protected by First Amendment (speech, assembly). Mostly that gets into the definition of "demonstration." I would have to say there is a reason police show up at planned demonstrations and put up barricades. It has to do with amounts of control by leadership. The woman screaming in the restaurant sounded not controled.
