    (6 February 1806) British and French naval forces clash off . The Battle of San Domingo, as it became known, ended in British victory, only four months after Nelson's great victory at Trafalgar.

    (4 February 1945) The Conference, a meeting of U.S. President Franklin D. , British Prime Minister Winston , and Soviet Premier Joseph , opens at the Livadia Palace in Yalta in the Crimea to discuss the post-war peace in Europe.

    (4 February 1945) The Santo Tomas Internment Camp in Japanese-occupied Philippines is liberated by U.S. forces. The camp was used by the Japanese to intern over 3,000 civilians of enemy nations, mostly Americans. Many prisoners were found to be near starvation.

    On 2 February 1924, HMS Caroline was towed out of Portsmouth and taken to the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast. She has remained in Belfast ever since, with the city being her home for 96 years!

    The infamous photo of Nguyễn Văn Lém, a Viet Cong member, being summarily executed by General Nguyễn Ngọc Loan in Saigon. The moment was captured by Eddie Adams, a photographer from Associated Press. It was also captured on film by Võ Sửu, a cameraman for NBC.
