So proud of my son, who graduated infantry basic training at Fort Benning on Friday. I got to pin on his US Army unit patch that officially makes him a US Army soldier. And I got to rock my 32-year-old uniform!

NYT Headline April 26, 1965: "SENATE LEADERS TO SPEED ACTION ON VOTING RIGHTS; Mansfield Predicts Final Passage in Weeks Despite Threat of Filibuster" Filibuster threat then came from segregationist Senators. Now it's entire Senate GOP caucus doing the same thing with same tool

A loss that means more to me than words can say. Civil rights atty, professor, my mentor, member of our ⁦⁩ family. A mother of the 1982 amendments to the Voting Rights Act. A scholar of uncompromising brilliance. Rest In Peace and Power, dear Lani.

Facing criticism, Ted Cruz went on Fox to claim he'd just made a "sloppy" error Wednesday when he called the Capitol assault a terrorist attack. But I've found *17* previous occasions on which Cruz used the same language:

It's one thing to evolve on an issue, as every single one of us has, but this was 10 years into the fight for the Dream Act and essentially wondering why the young immigrants he was watching on his tv weren't forcibly removed from the country is not "missing the mark."

In case there was any doubt whether "originalism" is bullshit, here's the words of the Chief Justice : "but it acted 50 years ago. I don't think it had Covid in mind" Now apply this to the Second Amendment.
