What went wrong is that the US didn't act through intelligence, but through impulsivity, assumption, bias, and a desire for revenge and to save face. There is no excuse what the US did, and trying to write it off as "conflict is chaotic and often tragic" is deplorable.

The whole withdrawal was a gigantic cluster F that could not have been worse. But, how many Taliban members were killed? (0) is my guess, since their checkpoints allowed that ISIS-K suicide bomber thru supposedly 3or4 checkpoints before finally murdering over 200,13 US Troops KIA

Saying they "allowed" them though is absurd. You can also blaim the American Explosives Dogs, that they couldn't smell them early enough.. Seriously, Taliban focused a lot of a peaceful change of status quo when they entered Kabul. Why should they act so weird?

How is that taking responsibility..? Is he or anyone else resigning from the post in military? Is there going to be a block on drone use until due process goes through?

To me, this sounds like a simple case of manslaughter.

I am so glad they admitted to this, it is awful, but we really need to be honest in our endeavors.

There will naturally be all kinds of screaming, accusations & demands for resignations; mostly by folks who have never served a single hour in a combat zone. Sh*t happens, tragic yes, in need of scrutiny, yes. Clearly this wasn't deliberate! Remember My Lai?
