Stopped at the local Best Buy yesterday, and two out of the six display MacBooks with the new keyboards had dead keys. Heed the warnings of @caseyjohnston, people. (I didn't upgrade to the new MBP precisely for that reason.)https://theoutline.com/post/2402/the-new-macbook-keyboard-is-ruining-my-life?zd=1&zi=wlh46bd5 …

Two things: 1. I would be amazed if four out of _any_ six computers at Best Buy worked. 2. I'd like to see the paperwork on his ruined life. That said, I'm probably switching to PC when this current mid-2015 dies. I can't take the expense any more.

My personal failure rate with the butterfly keyboard is 100%, and at the prices Apple charges, I am unwilling to take that chance again. (Went to Surface Pro instead.)

I have a Surface Pro 3; not impressed. (I'm a cross-platform developer, and have roughly a dozen computers here.) I was thinking of a Surface Book as a potential replacement.

I've had that one, but I like the latest (fifth-gen) Pro better. It's more flexible, and it's a really mature product now. I also hear good things about the Surface Laptop if you don't care about tablet functionality.

I'm not sure if I do or not. I have several iPads, and never use them for anything but dev. On the other hand, as you well know, they aren't "real" computers in the strictest sense. So it's hard to say if I care about the tablet part.

Then I'd look at the Surface Laptop. Cheaper than the Surface Book, same size and weight (and price!) as a MBA, but a much nicer screen with pen compatibility. And the keyboard is far superior.
