It is an interesting art project. I don't see real negative sides and would love to see (and track) it in orbit. Disclosure: I know Trevor personally, and am tangentially involved with the project (I ran some orbital lifetime simulations).
This project brings nothing that we don't have already: we already have plenty of moving lights in the sky to engage the public with & draw them to the majesty of the night. It's vacuous art, just because I can art, totally different to the pieces you mentioned. 7/

You keep insisting it has to have some scientific, educational or commercial purpose. Why? Art needs not to be any of those. What makes Orbital Reflector different and unique, and Art indeed, is that none of the objects orbiting our planet were meant to be art and nothing more.
-
You're missing my point: I'm just saying that adding another satellite like this brings nothing beyond what the many purposeful ones in orbit look like already. Or the many natural phenomena already there to enthrall. It's a completely empty artistic statement.

Of course, if this object were able to suddenly morph into the Mona Lisa, or a Pollock piece, it may then be an artistic statement, but Disney characters & Buy Pepsi! adverts would have there first, & that would not be good thing. I hope we can agree on that much.

I'm not anti-art in the slightest; quite the opposite. One of my brothers is an artist & we constantly engage with artists at
@esa to inspire, challenge, & cross-fertilise. I just don't see this in the same light at all. Seems as though we disagree fairly fundamentally though
