That’s Chinese flag from 1928-1949 in mainland. And to some extent, it represents “the whole China” in the UN until 1971. It’s kinda misleading to call it Taiwanese flag only given this context.
It would be misleading if the movie was coming out in 1972

Because fighter jets are cool and we are going to witness incredible cinematography of them flying though different terrains and landscapes. Also, for the volleyball and corny one-liners.
I’m not sure I have ever actually watched “Top Gun” - and I lived through the 80s. I’m thinking I may have just seen the Berlin and Kenny Loggins videos several hundred times.
