Whenever I think my job is hard, I stop and remind myself what my patients are going through

I remember on my first placement, whenever anyone complained about a patient the boss quickly reminded everyone that patients are usually scared and confused. If they were all doing great, they wouldn't be at the clinic in the first place.

That boss 👏🏿👏🏿. Human disease is life changing and confusing. It's not easy for the patients and their loved ones.

It’s not very fun when your clincians complain about how difficult it is to care for you. Thank you for this.

I already know it’s difficult to care for me that’s why I’m here asking for help from a professional instead of continuing to slog through it alone

Seriously. My patients coping with spinal cord injury, stroke, and yes, cancer, never cease to inspire me. One moment and life is forever changed. Why do I ever whine about going into the hospital for work? At least I can walk out several hours later!

Yes this is true, of course it is. We are very lucky in many ways. But it’s also true that your job IS hard, crushingly hard sometimes, and it’s also ok to recognize that and work to not make it harder than it has to be. #SelfCareSaturday
