Today, the US crossed into a place it has not been since the 1800s. A sitting member on the Supreme Court attended the swearing in ceremony of Senator Marsha Blackburn, who was also just added to the Senate Judiciary Committee. A dangerous turn.https://twitter.com/politico/status/1080960556218138624?s=19 …

Yes. It's quite authoritarian. And yet, Congress & most all of the MSM is completely oblivious to it. As usual. Pelosi. Schumer. Oblivious. Which is how we ended up with Trump in the first place.

Really? You are glad these Generals stepped into the breach? They said 'yes' to a person of zero integrity. Is that the right example for the service members that worked for us? At the end of our career, it is okay to take the easy wrong over the hard right?

Laura, whether or not they chose the easy wrong over the hard right, their decision to course-correct and walk away speaks volumes. We all make mistakes. To admit we've made a mistake takes bravery and character. In fact, the president should follow their lead.

You would have to ask them. I would agree that choosing to accept appointment by DT was questionable at best. But an enlisted officer's oath is to the constitution. It's not their fault that the 1 person in charge of it all has never read it, nor could he possibly understand it.

My Navy pilot husband told me he saw an air show aboard a destroyer & decided *that* was his destiny. Quickly it became duty to country & I suspect the same w/ the Generals. Duty to country until your Commander is Queeg, I suspect. Stay until their consciences say leave, now.

That’s what makes Flynn and, yes, Kelly so repellent. In the end, they chose self and/or party over country, when the country was counting on them.

Oh man. On the nose. And it sickens me. I’d like to add @senatemajldr to the list of choosing self then party then country last to that list. Traitors all & should be treated as such. Thank you for this.

Great piece. Interestingly, we inside the Justice Department used the same term — “the enablers” — to describe those DOJ leaders who chose not to stand up and defend our institutions from political attacks...

Great read but I wouldn’t include Kelly in the same breath as McMasters & Mattis. Lightyears difference. IMHO, Kelly lost his moral authority & integrity the minute he lied while standing at that podium. Btw Gen Hertling, we need to see/hear more of your analysis on @CNNPolitics!
