False equivalence. Netflix is 15 bucks and is an add on to cable for many.

I know I’m jumping in uninvited here but interested in your opinion if instead this showed hours viewed per month on either?
-
Based on the most recent figures I found the average Netflix user watches 1.8 hours a day where as the average American watches 4.3 hours of live TV a day. It’s not even close and that doesn’t include all the apps with content that must be authenticated with a cable sub.
-
But let’s define “watch” in this context. When I’m watching Netflix, I am paying attention. When live TV is on, it’s typically background noise.
-
Is that a useful context? The value of attention is relative to the power of ads. Netflix has none. That’s 2 hours a day lost to advertisers, lost revenue opportunities to cable programmers.

Yeah, now you know why net neutrality is an issue. Cable companies need their $$

Why is that surprising?

No one used the word surprising.

I realize that. It was rhetorical.

@DanielSSutton might be interesting for you x -
Subscriptions are only half the story though. Traditional television average revenue per user is significantly greater that online services (7x).

It matters to advertisers. Trust me. The entire television advertising industry is about to implode...
