The pedestrianisation of stuff is good, but denser development is the problem. Did you know that Paris is already one of the densest cities in the world outside of Asia? It is severely lacking in green space, the metro is under severe pressure. More density isn’t the answer.

That's all true. There is actually very little about densification in the NYT piece. Paris is near perfect urban density already. But streets and metro are congested and air is polluted. The 35% still in love with their cars need to dump them now.

Disagree. That is the simplistic view shown to the US. It was distrust in gov in general, and distain towards any rules. The 1st phase of a fuel tax was implemented no problem, the 2nd phase was the excuse for the protests. The 2nd phase was scrapped and protests continued.
