    Asghar Farhadi's engrossing new film A Hero in reminded me of Kamran Shirdel's brilliant, classic Iranian doc The Night it Rained. Similar theme of the popular desire for heroes and the complexity of that.

    Statue of Lord Brougham in Cannes. He was from Edinburgh, founded the Edinburgh Review, helped develop Cannes and, unlike many guys on statues, seems to have been pretty decent.

    It’s not in my nature to agree with people but the love for The Story of Film: A New Generation by are spot on. What a comfort and a balm after a difficult time for cinema. This and feel like real gifts.
