We have received no clear explanation for why these layoffs had to happen.
As far as we can tell, they are not financially necessary or rooted in any coherent business plan from our publisher, who has said that he expects the company to be larger a year from now.

Today, The Washington Post laid off 20 of our colleagues.
While 20 is much smaller than 200 — “a single digit percentage of the workforce,” as Publisher Fred Ryan indicated, that’s little consolation to those who lost their jobs today.
That number should be zero.

it's still fairly crazy that Spielberg has two Oscars, the second-most Best Director nominations ever, is prob going to win his third soon and is....still.....possibly underrated by Oscar voters? kinda nuts

with this nomination, Spielberg breaks out of a tie with Billy Wilder for the third-most Best Director nominations. he now has 9 (spread over six decades lmao), tied with Scorsese, behind Wyler.
this is the 2nd time he's had back to back years with nominations (after Raiders/ET)

doing this show without Niles is an affront to the very conception of god, a colossal mistake borne of hubris and callous indifference to joy, light and basic human dignity.
get Niles back and it's an automatic 10/10 would tune in etc

I don't even know where to begin about the many things I'll miss at @washingtonpost - there'll be a time for that later. That my bosses took such the time to write such a meaningful departure notice illustrates how lucky I've been. This place means so much to me.

So much of the 2000's are probably forgotten by Colin Farrell, yet he will remember Charlie Rose annoying him by calling Miami Vice "Miami Whatever" until the day he dies, and that's beautiful to me

And an 11-year-old girl stepped outside one recent morning to paper swastikas with handwritten slurs: “GO TO HELL, JEW B-TCH.”

Today, we came into WaPo’s so-called town hall with questions about recent layoffs and the future of the company.
Our publisher dropped a bombshell on us by announcing more layoffs and then walking out, refusing to answer any of our questions.

i've said this before and people seem to think i am joking, but i am entirely sincere: the reason i think Philip Seymour Hoffman is the greatest actor of my lifetime is that he could have played Lincoln but DDL could not have done Along Came Polly
