I had a peer who used to work 70+ hours a week. She worked over weekends and talked about it constantly. Leadership saw this as a badge of honor. I once said it was a sign of poor time management and I was shunned for a long time lol

Not good at setting priorities either. Or setting boundaries. Or speaking up if the work really was that demanding. Not good all around.

People value finishing a job rather than never needing to. A large portion of value can be unseen. Efficiency isn't a parlour game of who can stir up the most fish.

“Do we even need to do this?” Is the first question I ask, and is always met with defensive justification. To accept the futility of a process is to admit to time wasted in the past.

I had a boss once who expected you to stay late if he was in the office, and because I dared to schedule personal commitments after work, he started assigning me tasks purposely so that I had to stay after hours. I didn’t last long there at all.
