If anyone is wondering why I did that below ⬇️, the answer is simple: we're sleepwalking into a series of crises because today's business leaders are selling us a fantasy that serves their short-term interests. And I personally think it's time we held them accountable.

Ex-Blackrock CIO for sustainable investing @sosofancy went from one of the most powerful sustainable investors in the world to abandoning that power. Find out why on this week’s “Money Talks” podcast econ.st/3cqPzEz

Short-termism is built into the NZ electoral system — 3-year terms vs 4 or even 5 years for most other countries. Year 1: Settle in and figure out what to do Year 2: Do something that will show positive, short-term results Year 3: Prepare for the next election

There are so many things I love about #NewZealand. Just about to become a citizen after 10 years here. But yes, the short-termism that pervades organisation's is really detrimental to progress. The lack of planning still shocks and frustrates me twitter.com/dvdjhnhll/stat…

Shocking press release from the pro-free-market public-policy think tank, The NZ Initiative. “Central banks globally have made serious monetary policy mistakes” because they “were distracted by extraneous political objectives, such as climate change”. bit.ly/3zwJGyC

This also suggests that conventional (Northern Hemisphere, Pakeha) photographic practices, especially photographing strangers in public, often at close range (which is legal here), are inappropriate in the Aotearoa New Zealand context. This should prompt an open conversation.

I’m in a supermarket and they’re playing Brooke Fraser’s “Something In the Water” “Ah ah ah ah ah ah There's something in the water, Something in the water Ah ah ah ah ah ah There's something in the water” Is it just me or is everyone freaking out about Covid-19 these days?

The NZ Government's response to climate change is at least consistent with its reaction to increasing Covid-19 infections, hospitalisations, and deaths — "We really think people should do the right thing."

New IAG/Ipsos poll on climate adaptation shows falling confidence in the Government's climate response: -39% say we're not moving fast enough -24% say we're on the wrong track -17% say we won't reach current targets #nzpol #climatecrisis

The NZ government's message now seems to be that individuals, schools & businesses are encouraged to do what they can to protect themselves & others from Covid-19. If they don't, they are to blame for a worsening crisis. It's an abdication of responsibility. Very disappointing.

I'd love to see 's run a contest for a short music theme. A different one each week, a cash prize, runs at the end of each show. Imagine the Kiwi ingenuity it would unleash! Showcase the pro talent in NZ. And get the sonic equivalent of the Laser Kiwi!

The bombastic tunes for our news become so familiar we barely notice them - until they change. Lately RNZ's been criticised for getting its new news tunes offshore. Hayden Donnell gets opinions on that - and gets a local composer to have a go rnz.co.nz/national/progr

I read Aaron Collins () in The & watched his YouTube videos on mask tests. I've been using Korean-style KF94 masks ever since. MaskLab & other brands are available in NZ online and in some shops. Why settle for more limited protection? theguardian.com/commentisfree/

Unbelievable. Once all of NZ is in the traffic light system, and #covid19 has spread throughout the country, what vaccinated person would risk entering an event, venue, or business where vaccine passes had not been properly verified? Not me.
Quote Tweet
The traffic light system is almost entirely premised on verifiable vaccine passes. But the Government risks severely undermining the health response if it won't require businesses to verify the passes. newsroom.co.nz/how-traffic-li #nzpol #Covid19 #Covid19nz

This is such a good way to put it! With omicron we are witnessing a system failure issue. It just highlights once again how we need to address the pandemic globally.

I've had a couple American readers ask me what to do with knowledge of Nu and Omicron variants of COVID. My hot take: New variants will keep happening. This is a system failure issue, not a personal panic time one. The world needs vaccine equity.

This helps to explain why #GroundswellNZ is serving as a platform for #ClimateChange #Disinformation (e.g. the video currently featured on their website: “New Zealand agriculture has little to no warming effect on the environment”).

I wish NZ journalists would do a bit of digging into what #GroundswellNZ really stands for (and the #disinformation they are spreading). They've simply parroted their slogans and repeated their demand that the Govt immediately withdraw the all regulations they don't like.

4/.. In the #UK, 'Groundswell' is a movement supporting commercial no-till agriculture - a meeting point for all farmers interested in a future for their industry. Progressive, enlightened. NZ stole the name for some weird Trump-style archaic last-gasp. Wise-up, NZ farmers!
