  7. United States Frigate Essex! In June, 1798, in response to threats of war with France, Congress passed several acts which allowed Essex to be built. The 32-gun ship was sponsored by 23 citizens of Salem, MA and later worked up quite the battle record during the War of 1812!

  10. Scrimshaw comes in all shapes and sizes, just like this scrimshaw polar bear figurine 🐻‍❄️ from North Eastern Greenland! This figurine and several others showing animals of the Arctic are from Capt. Robert Bartlett who was an Arctic explorer in the late 19th, early 20th century.

  15. BIG MOVES TODAY 🏗 Thanks to our friends at Crofton Industries, the Japanese midget submarine Nishimura 3746 is in her new support cradle!! This will protect the hull, provide safe access for conservation treatment, and bonus… can be used as an exhibit mount when the time comes.
