If we in the US were honest, or had any sort of education, we would acknowledge that every system has imposed great cruelties; the US has always had its own version of the Stasi.
That would be a start to figuring out how to provide for all the people w/o such attendant cruelty.

Given location, it made me wonder if the victim is unhoused.
It's so common that unhoused people are assaulted. But it's not common for it to be reported TO police, or BY media.

If someone is in jail and they're later hospitalized, the jail is still liable for that detainee's well-being. If that detainee dies, the system remains responsible for that death. Any death while detained is an in-custody death regardless of where it happens.

I can’t remember whether it was Rochester or Rochester Hills, but a school friend of mine who lived there met with the local govt to say that streetlights at intersections would make it way safer to bike and not get hit.
He was told “We’re a bike at your own risk community.”

And then what happens? They’re “restrained” in the same physical manner they were when attacked. Only this time by LE who is dismissing their trauma & telling them to “calm down” & “stop resisting”. Trauma layered on trauma. We have the resources for it all to be so different. 💔

I'm one of many women who have worked long enough in restaurants to not want to dine out anymore.
There is no tip large enough to address how badly Latino dishwashers are treated. Many of these workers are seniors, or semi-disabled.
The whole system is dysfunctional and cruel.
