Known as the Plastico di Roma Imperiale, the plaster model was commissioned by Mussolini in 1933 and depicts Rome in the 4th century AD at the time of Constantine I. It now sits in the Museum of Roman Civilization.

The plaster model was created by archaeologist Italo Gismondi, who worked on the piece throughout his life.pic.twitter.com/7pOW4Qb5Xb

Thank you so much for sharing this and making my day enjoyable :-) Do you know if the plaster model or some copies are accessible somewhere on earth? Maybe someone has created a 3D visit from the internet?

It now sits in the Museum of Roman Civilization.

If they could do a 3D rendering to explore on your computer would be amazing
-
Man spends 35 years doing a detailed scale model. Twitter: can we have a 3D rendering
-
What’s so bad about that? I’m SO sorry I’m not going to be near the museum anytime soon so one you could explore at home and admire in detail would be good.

Is this on display for public viewing? If so, where?
-
At the Museo della Civiltà Romana
-
They should do a virtual reality scan of it and allow us to virtually walk the streets of ancient Rome. I'd pay for that.

It's a very useful reference tool. I used it as one reference when I was commissioned to draw a map of Ancient Rome http://illustratedmaps.info/portfolio/illustrated-map-of-ancient-rome/ …pic.twitter.com/cxDqWvuhqa
