The platforms, PR companies , polling organizations are constantly harping on about ‘trust in news’. Why? You can be a robustly independent news outlet in an authoritarian state and poll low ‘trust’ numbers - just ask . Without context and explanation it’s unhelpful

This is why trust polls in news are such a massive diversion except for those committed to reminding news about ‘trust’ .This is definitely telling us something - but not which outlets ARE more reliable just which outlets people *think* of as more reliable
