Making music using barcode readers to transduce spatial frequencies into auditory ones (needs sound on). Poster / demo night idea for any musicians out there? (Plus, how great would this be as a conference party DJ set.....??)

There is a kind of scientific dialectic that I often see which gives false weight to "new" theories. Here's an illustration: Step 1: There is a dominant theory that explains some data but not everything.

Eye tracking tweeps: if you were teaching a class on eye tracking for cognitive science and overviewed "classic eye tracking experiments" what would you cover? I have scenes: Yarbus (1967); reading: Rayner (1975); visual world: Cooper (1974)

One of my favorite graphs is the relationship between chronological age (x) and felt age (y). Black are those that felt the age they are, green felt older, blue felt younger.

Apparently, sharks enter an immobile, trance-like state when turned upside-down ("tonic immobility"). I believe this effect arises because the disorientation causes them to reflect on the growing, out-of-control length of their to-do list.

One of the few Academia-related things which surprised me is how largely what I can do as a postdoc is constrained by what I have done as a PhD student. Note to past-self: get (some) experience with many different methods!

I thought some of you might be interested in this older paper on the 'best' fixation point that Lore Thaler, A.C. Schütz, Karl Gegenfurtner, and I wrote a few years ago. We looked at the fixation point that minimized drift, microsaccades, and tremor.
