Good morning from @PeteButtigieg's first event of the day in Marshalltown, IA. The anti-gay protester has returned and is dressed up as the devil and is shouting at us through a sound system.pic.twitter.com/xaWeEqxBUI

Here's the crowd at @PeteButtigieg's second stop of the day at the Asian & Latino PAC. Crowd size is about 170ish. Reminder that this is on a weekday morning. Pretty good size.pic.twitter.com/UH82Bst96c
I have gotten a TON of questions about @PeteButtigieg's childcare tax credit. Here's the transcript.
"We'll roll out more -- more detail on how we view this in time, but it's some form of tax credit style allowance for childcare that will help people cover those costs."pic.twitter.com/MNkJANNqSJ
.@PeteButtigieg on protesters:
"Well, the better we do, the -- the more that's going to happen. So I take it to be a barometer of success, just something that we have to prepare for, along with all of the other things that you have to be ready for when you reach the top tier."pic.twitter.com/3EmHBeKn2D
NEW: @PeteButtigieg calls for a federal open data policy.pic.twitter.com/PmTFw9it7Y
This question about why so many elderly people show up to @PeteButtigieg rallies is... kinda misleading.
The rallies have been on weekdays, not on college campuses, and DURING THE DAY. Young people are busy at work and college. I would expect the audience to be mainly retirees.pic.twitter.com/PHhhSQQ9xn
Read the question first, but here's more @PeteButtigieg on the protesters: "The next president is going to have to confront things a lot more challenging than being interrupted or having to talk over a little noise at an event."pic.twitter.com/qG6osW7qau
(TRANSCRIPT: Pete Buttigieg midday press gaggle 4/17/2019.) Here's the complete transcript of Pete Buttigieg's press gaggle for reporters that weren't able to make it.https://2020poolreports.substack.com/p/transcript-pete-buttigieg-press-gaggle-c62 …
OK, so I'm transcribing @PeteButtigieg's morning rally and the protester is on a PA system, over my audio in a really creepy voice whispering "Yeeeeeessssssssss, Peter, yessssssssssss." and it's making my job significantly more difficult than it normally is.
Asked a question about TPP, @PeteButtigieg on trade (in general, not TPP). "If we're not participating, if we're not involved, somebody else will be. And the Chinese model is being held up right now as perhaps more stable than the American model. I prefer the American model."pic.twitter.com/0Voiavc5rs
.@PeteButtigieg's South Bend-based preexisting policy on homeless veterans is worth reading. "First, we get them indoors and then we deal with the other issues instead of saying you got to be clean before we can put a roof over your head."pic.twitter.com/zWrXVJq0eD
Here is the complete transcript of @PeteButtigieg's rally in Marshalltown, IA earlier today.https://2020poolreports.substack.com/p/transcript-pete-buttigieg-marshalltown …
No, no, no! You can't solve childcare with a tax credit! That only gives another break to the wealthy & does absolutely nothing to help lower income folks.
All depends on whether or not it's refundable
No, it doesn't. Access to safe & affordable childcare are not going to be helped by a tax credit. Childcare costs are anywhere from $13,000- $26,000 a year. Are we going to give lower income families a $20,000 refund? The solution to this problem cannot come thru tax policy.
So for example, my childcare costs are about $11k in Toledo. Making that fully eligible for tax credits, and fully refundable, as opposed to just the first $3k, would mean about $3k more in my pocket each year. As a member of the middle class, that's pretty helpful!
It’s not nothing, I can definitely concede that. But it’s not nearly enough. It doesn’t do nearly enough for nearly enough people. His proposal is politics as usual and those are not working for far too many people.
This totally misses the point: even if the tax credit is fully refundable, you're still asking poor people to float $10-20k until they file taxes the following year. Many people are unable to afford doing that.
Yes. Exactly. How do you square asking people to do that with the numbers on how many people in the US couldn’t come up with $400 in cash for an emergency?
Or we could just go with @ewarren's universal childcare plan
Where's the fun in covering that? A solid plan that would transform life for children and parents.
Covering young charismatic white guys is way more interesting than discussing actual solutions.
