The thought of Apple dropping Thunderbolt from the MacBook line is especially amusing considering the Mac Pro /only just got TB a year ago/
-
@marcoarment Probably right, but it's sad because in my experience Thunderbolt is much more reliable than USB 3: http://mjtsai.com/blog/2014/06/18/rocketstor-drive-dock-more-expensive-but-reliable/ … -

@marcoarment@tapbot_paul I don’t know. Honestly, as a person who uses Thunderbolt every day for Mac repairs, the time I save is critical. -
@rleggoh I’ve gotten 400MB/sec out of USB 3.0, are you copying files significantly faster than that? Doubtful unless you have a SSD Raid.

@tapbot_paul using the thunderbolt adapter is massively fast versus USB but I will say USB 3.0 is almost just as fast for read/write. -
@rleggoh you are talking about the Thunderbolt -> Gigabit adapter? Have you tried a USB 3 version of the same?
-
@tapbot_paul yes, unfortunately. I hate adapters. But I don’t have the USB 3.0 one yet.

@marcoarment@tapbot_paul@stroughtonsmith Plus, TB3 also supports charging and has a smaller connector:http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/04/next-gen-thunderbolt-doubles-speeds-but-changes-the-connector/ … -
@jeffkibuule new connector, I guess that means new $100 cables. ^:)

@marcoarment@tapbot_paul@stroughtonsmith Really? USB 3.1 at 10Gbps and Thunderbolt 3 at 40Gbps. Maybe Thunderbolt goes Pro models only? -
@marcoarment@tapbot_paul@stroughtonsmith Dare I say that the USB Type-C cable is also much better than the terrible Thunderbolt cable? -
@marcoarment@tapbot_paul@stroughtonsmith USB 3 disks get unplugged all the time. Quality cables / enclosures. -
@marcoarment@tapbot_paul@stroughtonsmith look at the limits for the displayport pass through. TB still has some big advantages. -
@marcoarment you mean FW 400–800 vs USB 2–3. USB 1 was like 12 Mbps or something similarly ludicrous.
