Neither the $5-once IAP nor patronage-for-nothing were justifying much continued investment. Patronage-with-perks is doing better so far.

@marcoarment Did you see a big uptick in purchases with yesterday’s update?

@marcoarment people go apeshit for dark themes and now the patronage feels like a subscription for a dark theme to a lot of people.

@0rcutt Well, that’s accurate. I’d say $12/year for a frequently used app is extremely reasonable, so I don’t feel bad about that.

@marcoarment I completely agree, but it appears that a vocal minority don’t realize that the sub is essentially the same as paying for (1/2)

@marcoarment I've always argued that patronage w/ perks was the way to go. It's what we're doing with @ClubMacStories. I think you're right.

@marcoarment pre App Store the pay for major upgrades every 1-2 years model was prevalent, there’s a reason for that…

@marcoarment freemium + subscriptions are the future of consumer apps.

@marcoarment It’d be awesome if people who bought Overcast could get Patronage perks for a few months to tempt them. Not sure if possible.

@marcoarment Maybe call it what it is - a subscription model? Glad you’re finding things that work.

@marcoarment As a patron both before and after - thanks. Great app, solid updates, and I love the new theme.

@marcoarment I think I missed this change to patronage-with-perks. Did you talk or blog about it somewhere?

@DazeEnd @marcoarment 2.5 added unlocking a dark theme with san francisco font and uploading your own media to overcast servers…for patrons.

@marcoarment Showed people Overcast (paid). They loved it but wouldn’t buy it. Free plus patronage for perks, they’re in. And paid. Weird.

@marcoarment also, I use overcast everyday. I don't remember a notification about patronage, otherwise would have supported sooner

@marcoarment part of this might be an awareness thing: I had no idea there were new patronage levels. I just upped to a year, feels great!

@marcoarment patronage-with-perks got me to pay again. I paid once before but didn't after it ran out
