You make a statement that it is impossible to tell if it is a TB3 cable. I am pretty sure those cables must have the TB icon on them.

The USBC/Thunderbolt confusion is pretty much an Apple thing. It should get better once Thunderbolt dies.

What happens if you attempt to charge one macbook pro with another macbook pro using USB-C? Who is active/giving? Who is passive/receiving?

I can understand the frustration of new port tech but who buys "at a glance whether a given cable, or device supports USB-C"

I don't think it's impossible, I think Apple hasn't sold it well. Hardly any devices need tb speed; there's no reason not to have 10 ports.

Seems to be the big problem is labeling ports and cables so you know what standards are supported.
