Great article. Of course, another hotly contested issue is apps (built with no lawyer involvement) that say they give no legal advice but really DO give legal advice. If there is no punishment for this the proliferation of harmful apps will only grow.

There is no viable method of punishing this short of international treaty. Unauthorized practice of law is jurisdictional. Apps are not.

One thing to consider is the fact that the rules of professional conduct may actually be preventing legal apps from reaching higher quality. For example, a simple will app could flag a high asset individual and recommend a living trust, but won't for fear of violating UPL rules
