It can be. But isn't always. I've had guests in my class who could share stories + convey meaning to my students that I simply can't. I think my students will agree.
Inviting guest speakers to law school classes is a modern day Tom Sawyer fence-whitewashing move.

When I have guest speakers, it is coteaching designed to complement what I say and invoke class discussion. The guest speaker is never a sub or replacement.
