After the drama of the balloon 🎈 is over, this day may well be remembered as the date that Trump single-handedly changed the trajectory of the GOP’s war on drop boxes.
NEW: In an unprecedented move, the newly Republican-controlled North Carolina Supreme Court grants requests from Republican legislators to rehear two cases that the lawmakers lost last term.
🚨BREAKING: Weeks after taking control of North Carolina Supreme Court, five GOP Justices vote to rehear two recently decided cases involving voter ID and redistricting.
NOTE: This could moot the Independent State Legislature case currently before SCOTUS.

I suggested this exact idea in 2020 and Republicans went crazy attacking me over it.👇

NEW: Today the Florida Department of State submitted a report to the Florida Legislature recommending legislative proposals to update the mail-in voting process.
"Democrats' legal apparatus, led by lawyer Marc Elias, continues to pursue litigation against GOP gerrymanders in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Texas."
releases new contribution limits for federal campaigns, parties and pacs.
Individuals can now give $3,300 per election to a federal campaign ($6,600 primary/general) and $41,300 per year to national party committees' regular accounts.
Today, at 9:30 a.m. EST, the state’s highest court will hear oral argument over the appeal of that decision — the outcome of which will determine the voting rights of nearly 60,000 North Carolinians.
If you don’t already receive, check out Marc’s .@DemocracyDocket “Daily Docket” emails. They are a very informative concise recap of their very important efforts. #ProudBlue
"Temperatures may be cooling as February kicks off, but activity in the courtroom is heating up. Georgia, Kansas and North Carolina will have litigation developments this month as other lawsuits challenging suppressive voting practices."
Over the course of the previous decade, litigation that overturned unlawful, Republican-drawn maps netted House Democrats 10 seats in just four states: Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
Sadly, racial discrimination continues to be the dominant theme in redistricting litigation. Fifty-two percent of all redistricting lawsuits contained a claim of racial discrimination or violation of the VRA.
This is a very big deal. A federal political committee cannot legal act without a treasurer. It cannot raise or spend $. Most importantly for today, it cannot file the required FEC disclosure reports.
That said, no one in their right mind should take this job.
Though I am no fan of Barr, he is unlikely to hire lawyers who claim Hugo Chávez rigged elections from the grave or threaten to release the mythological Kraken. He is almost certainly not going to hold press conferences in a landscaping parking lot.
At the beginning of 2023, there were 32 ongoing cases that dispute congressional maps in 15 states. Significantly, some of the most contentious litigation is in states with the most congressional seats and greatest potential for partisan swings.
I don't believe Santos is doing this to avoid distraction. I suspect he is doing this to potentially avoid the same outcome as a result of House rules...
There is no factor that plays a more important role in partisan control of the U.S. House of Representatives than how congressional districts are drawn.
My Latest.
Since the release of 2020 census data, Democracy Docket tracked 111 lawsuits challenging maps (or lack of maps) related to 2020 redistricting.
Two-thirds of all states saw litigation over their maps drawn with 2020 census data.
