Flight mode does *NOT* disable GPS. GPS is receive-only technology. Flight mode is about radio transmission. Your phone is tracking you in flight mode just fine. Try it - set your phone to flight mode and open a GPS client app. Works just fine on my Nexus 5X running LineageOS.

Not mine - I disable GPS normally. I switch it on only when I need it.

Don't be too naive, the underlying hardware is independent of the OS, the app you installed needs OS approval however
