Raise your hand if you're going to give Xecuter money for a 3D printable piece of plastic and something you can do with your phone and a USB cable? Anyone? Come on, they didn't even *try* to hide the fact that it's the same bug as sh0fusel2. Probably stealing homebrew code too.pic.twitter.com/chRLHntkVq

If you want to/can use your phone, sure. But for a standalone device, if the rumored $30 price is true, it will be hard to DIY for much cheaper. Limiting price being the electronics in the dongle.

Er, the Raspberry Pi Zero is like <$10 and probably 50 times more powerful than Xecuter's thing, which is almost certainly a $1 microcontroller. That dongle's BOM is guaranteed <$5 including the case.

It's all tradeoffs. Pi Zero is fine if you're OK with a multi-second boot up. Best realistic option I've seen otherwise is a Teensy 3.2 at $20.

I was just using it as an overkill example. There are plenty of cheaper options. You just need any random microcontroller that can do USB host mode. Heck, you could write a little payload for the rPi to do it without the Linux kernel at all.

The pre order price for the software alone is $25 But with the USB dongle it's $35 If that small USB dongle can let me boot to Reswitched or Atmosphere, then why not. Maybe someone will clone then and sell it for $15.

Yeah, just install fusée launcher on this(a cheap Linux wifi-USB dongle, 100% supported by openWTR, even with microsd!) and connect it to an usb a-to-c adapter, maybe with some modding needed for power deliverypic.twitter.com/Rvpw0RDunL
