be glad you're not on windows. have fun adding `|| exit /b 1` to every line of your batch file!
This is why not beginning your shell scripts with `set -e` is a terrible idea (and yes, that's a terrible default, but now we're stuck with it). Lots of data and servers have been lost to misbehaving shellscripts not aborting after an error.
