Is the EPS system open-sourced? Or at least a write-up about how it works behind the scenes? I am genuinely curious about how the huge hype is handled :P
Not open source, though refactoring bits out into an open-source library is on my TODO list. We did a tech talk on it at Gipuzkoa Encounter 12, but TL;DR it's nginx, Python, PostgreSQL, Flask, SQLAlchemy, gunicorn. Whole thing was built in ~2 months in a rush last year.

The important optimizations are turning off synchronous mode on the DB (not viable on HDDs), using a stored procedure to perform reservations entirely in Postgres without locking/bottlenecking on the Python side, and using SocketIO and an eventlet server for the realtime seat map
