This always struck me as completely nonsensical. Arguing that a member of one culture should not be allowed to enjoy the traditions of another is, effectively, arguing for segregation. It's just another symptom of the diseased social narrative that keeps brewing in the US.
And I'm freaking glad that nonsense isn't universal, because otherwise I wouldn't be able to enjoy studying jazz as a pale white Spaniard, from an Indian-British teacher, who learned from black Americans. Screw cultural segregation.

the problem with this it's easy to veer off into “color-blind” territory from here. it's not a free cultural exchange because there's a steep power difference. (which is why nobody complains when there's e.g. Americans in Lederhosn at a beer fest because Germans aren't oppressed)

Then maybe the focus should be on fixing the "steep power difference" (call it what it is: blatant institutionalized racism, especially in the US) instead of on stifling cultural exchange.
