wrote an I2C core, added some registers to access through it, plugged the bus in oh no it doesn't work after twenty minutes of headscratching i realize i didn't actually give the FPGA any clock to run on

... aaaand that reminds me of looped(?) repeater memory, implicitly clocked by the game's redstone ticks. Don't know anyone who used it, but... There was also something in the real world iirc! Vibrations down a coiled loop of wire? I think?
