I hate academia so much. I'm so glad I'm away from that shit. Can't believe I was thinking about finishing a PhD.

I have a lot of mixed feelings on my education and research, but I landed in a good program with good people and a research advisor who understood and encouraged me and who I worked really well with. If any of those things had been lacking, I probably wouldn't have finished my BS

Almost all of my non-specific course credits went into research and I nearly failed most of my specific courses with certain major exceptions. I'm a lot prouder of who I am outside of academia than inside it.

After several years & multiple universities I gave up, took a sabbatical year, then finished my degree (BS-ish) at an online uni. In the end I just wanted the piece of paper. Glad I got it, because it was required when I decided to move to Japan. Such a waste of time though.

I still remember the day I tried to explain to the professor (microcontrollers course, using PICs) that the textbook was wrong about the PORTx RMW problem, and he just *didn't get it* (and didn't care). I think around then I realized it was a lost cause.

I actually wrote a single-page analysis of the issue with diagrams and instruction timings just because I felt like it, and figured maybe he'd want to talk about it. I don't think he even read it.
