Openness is great, but the world is sadly full of assholes. Back in the Wii/Twiizers days, we had a few outer tiers (e.g. a group of originally HBC betatesters, later really just a bunch of trusted Wii devs) and managed to mostly avoid leaks. Pick your friends carefully.

The pattern that we find works for us is to create per-project offshoot communities where we invite other people. The Switch Linux stuff was largely developed/discussed on a separate channel with some non-f0f folks. Even so, it's still invite-only.
