My extremely uneducated read is that shorting the pins puts the switch into a recovery mode. I *believe* the controllers always use Bluetooth, even connected. Worst case you can’t recharge? But I haven’t read anything about that.
The controllers are not Bluetooth when connected, but you can just take the short out and slide the controller back in after boot.
