Being "into USB" seems less healthy than being into physical pain. The latter triggers the release of endorphins, sometimes to the point of inducing an intense euphoric state. I don't see any upside to the former, apart from acute nostalgia for RS-232, 422, and maybe 485.

Actually if you just analyze the physical layer portions of these protocols as the speed of serialization increases the tricks are actually pretty neat and clever. Shared wire using open drain, NRZI/Bitstuffing, 8B/10B encoding, TX/RX Scrambling, Gearboxing, Auto-negotiation etc.
