Also in technology sucking and almost locking me out of places: a box in a remote location nominally connected via a USB 4G modem fell off the internet, because the modem crashed (!!!!!) and went into Qualcomm Sahara Memory Debug mode.

How did you find that it was in this memory debug mode? Did the SoC present itself differently?

It shows up with a different VID/PID for Sahara and the hello packet it sends contains the specific mode.

I usually slap OpenVPN on flaky connections. Works nicely even behind NAT, and connections through OpenVPN often survive short drops.
