And the “bootstrapping” term (IIRC) originators for computing seemed to know what they were saying. Seems logically impossible (and was technically difficult, took several iterations to get to here) the computer uses a program, to give itself the ability to run programs.
The term is also used in compiler development, where things get interesting when you need the compiler to compile itself. Bootstrapping is the process of arriving there via some route, often an older version or another compiler.

It's also used in some Linux distributions, and basically any other situation where you need to bring up a system that, a priori, requires an already working version of itself to bring up.
