I also watched anime since around that time. Like most Germans. Because three very popular and timeless children’s TV classics count as anime. Because they were the German versions, I’m not going to claim anything stupid though …
Or just because actual dubbed anime is and was rather popular in children's timeslots. I'd be surprised if I met someone my age in Spain who had never watched one of Pokemon, Dragon Ball, Captain Tsubasa, Digimon, Doraemon, etc... There was plenty of anime on Spanish national TV

I didn’t start watching those until five years older though. OP mentions 4, at which age I as a parent would NOT want my child to watch any of them ones you mentioned.
