      Not just that, it also needs periodic runtime retraining. Which on Tegra210 is done... by the Linux kernel, because they were too lazy to implement it on the BPMP CPU. Guess which feature isn't upstreamed yet, totally killing performance since the RAM runs at safe boot timings?

      Also, there's apparently so much voodoo in DDR4 initial training that even Google couldn't get Nvidia to open source it. It's the *only* part of the Pixel C boot chain that isn't open source. It's implemented by a blob the bootloader embeds and calls into.

      DRAM training code seems to be like that, the x86 controllers are the same way! My theory is that all that stuff is so close to the edge in function that they can’t share too much...

      Really I just think it's JEDEC wanting their licensing fee, which is way too big to ever get online freely available.

      Does JEDEC even charge licensing fees? I thought it was just a standards committee. They charge for some of their standards. Except for the part where you can spoof GoogleBot and download them for free. Which I totally didn't do.
