My solution was to switch to an internet radio station. Anything familiar, horrible or not, loses its effectiveness. Making it random is a latency gamble (I might get 15 minutes of calm songs that don't work), but *eventually* something will wake me up.
Also the particular radio station I use is all about covers and arrangements, and thus inevitably my brain goes "ooooooh" at some point when I hear a new interesting version of something I already know. Triggers processing to happen and then I properly wake up.

In 2004 I put my radio alarm out of reach tuned to a station I hated (sports radio.) I thought I'd get up to turn it off, but it was the lead up to when the Red Sox won the series for the first time in 86 years so I just laid in bed every morning getting hyped
